Limits and specs
What you get, exactly
Every size, limit and rule in one place, so you know before you upload. For prices see Pricing; for what happens to your photo see Privacy.
Upload
| File types | JPG, PNG, WebP, or iPhone HEIC (converted to JPG on upload). |
|---|
| File size | Up to 12 MB per photo. |
|---|
Free preview
| What you see | A watermarked result 720 px wide, with a before/after slider. No sign-up needed. |
|---|
| Daily limit (visitors) | 10 colorize previews and 3 restore previews per day for each browser, IP address and network. Limits reset 24 hours after each preview. |
|---|
| When previews are full | Free previews also share a small daily budget. If it is used up, previews pause until midnight UTC; signed-in customers who have bought credits keep working. |
|---|
Download
| Watermark | None. Downloads are the full-quality file. |
|---|
| Size: colorize only | Same pixel size as the photo you uploaded (scan at 600 DPI for the best result). |
|---|
| Size: restore, or restore + colorize | Up to 2048 px on the long side, saved as JPEG. |
|---|
| Time to result | About 15 seconds to colorize; 20 to 40 seconds to restore. |
|---|
Credits
| Cost per download | Colorize only: 1 credit. Restore, or restore + colorize: 2 credits. Previews cost nothing. |
|---|
| Welcome bonus | 1 free credit for a new account (enough for one colorize download). |
|---|
| Packs | $9.99 for 10 credits, $25.99 for 40, $59.99 for 120. One-time purchase, valid for 2 years, no subscription. |
|---|
| When a credit is spent | Only when you unlock the download, after a preview has succeeded. A failed or blocked job never costs a credit. Once unlocked, you can re-download for 24 hours at no extra charge. |
|---|
Refunds
| Unused credits | Refundable within 14 days of purchase. |
|---|
| Used credits | Not refundable unless the service clearly failed. Email support@colorizeoldphotos.com and we will make it right. |
|---|
Models
| What runs your photo | Third-party AI image models via fal.ai (see the About page for the current models). The photo is also screened once by OpenAI moderation before processing. |
|---|
Accuracy
| Colors | AI estimates, not a historical record. Uniforms, vehicles and clothing are often guessed. |
|---|
| Repairs | Small scratches, creases and fading are repaired well; large missing areas are reconstructed, so faces and text there may differ from the original. |
|---|
Retention
| Uploads and results | Expire 24 hours after upload and are always gone within 48 hours. The AI provider is asked to delete its copy after one hour. |
|---|
